San Bartolomé
Madrid
Home renovation in San Bartolomé. This home is a reflection on domestic space, articulating it through three axes: recycling, textures and space as emptiness.
The first step was the decanting of materials during the demolition. A first attempt until we managed to make the rubble into our floors, walls or furniture. In this way, we rescued the wood from the demolished partitions and the gotelé from the walls. They provided us with creative material for a heterogeneous creation process.
The other axis on which the design process pivots is texture. We seek to evoke the nakedness of the material, producing a tactile sensation. For this reason, we worked on one of the boundary walls to bring out its texture. This wall runs along the entire line of the house and two small windows appear that become an accident breaking its materiality.
Finally, the space as a void is a key element of the process. We were interested in air, in the open space conceived to feel more freedom. The kitchen flows into the living room, blurring the boundary. In the main room, the dressing room appears and disappears with textile elements. In the bathroom, its ceiling curves, blurring the ceiling and the wall, and the shower becomes a bathtub.
